In 1945, just after World War II, certain experts in works of art became aware of the originality and of the increasing volume of their trade and therefore founded the " Chambre Syndicale " later called the SFEP, in order to assure quality , fair professional pricing and reliance of their methods relative to the world of the professional code of ethics. These practices involved significant responsibilities.
The SFEP is by far the oldest European professional organization in its trade. Such long-established repute is due to the honesty and the respectability for which we are well known.
The SFEP was established solely by professionals experienced in the art of appraisal expertise and whose competence has been noted for its unquestionable integrity and total independence. It represents more than 140 members dealing in more than 76 specialities.
Most members have been approved by the Court of Cassation ( French Supreme Court), the Courts of Appeal, other various Courts, the Customs Administration and the Courts of the Public Domain*.
The members provide their services in France and abroad to heirs, legatees or donors from collectors and amateurs, public and private administrations, members of the legal profession ; their advice and expertise in the records of their transactions ; and of course, their most rewarding activity , participation in well-endorsed public auction sales solicited by auctioneers or sellers.
*They are only allowed to use their official status when they make expertises ordered by a judge.
